Old Vines

Old Vines
Why they produce special wines

Some things take time. Old vines are one of them.

In our vineyards on the Mosel, there are vines that have been deeply rooted in the slate soil for over 50 years. Over decades, they have learned to cope with drought, heat, and the challenges of each vintage. Their roots extend many meters deep into the soil, accessing water and nutrients from layers that often remain hidden from young vines.

However, the special quality of old vines is not just found underground.

As they age, the vines naturally produce fewer grapes. The vine's energy is distributed among fewer fruits, allowing the grapes to ripen with particular concentration. The result is wines with more depth, more structure, and a unique expressiveness.

Old Vines and the Moselle

On the Moselle, old vines meet steep slate slopes. This combination shapes our wines year after year.

The slate stores the sun's warmth and slowly releases it to the vines. At the same time, the Moselle ensures a cool climate and long ripening periods. This creates wines that combine freshness, minerality, and ripeness.

Especially old vines can transmit these unique characteristics of a vineyard into the wine with particular precision. They react less to short-term weather fluctuations and often reflect origin and vintage with particular clarity.

Wines that need time

We believe that great wines are not made by as many interventions as possible.

That is why we carefully accompany our wines in the cellar and give them the time they need. Many of our wines from old vines only show their full potential after several years of aging. What often seems reserved in its youth develops depth, harmony, and complexity over time.

It is precisely this development that makes old vines so appealing to us.

Our Riesling Old Vines

For our Riesling Alte Reben, we exclusively select grapes from vineyards with vines older than 50 years. The different slate soils complement each other to create a wine that beautifully reflects the balance between freshness, minerality, and harmony.

A Riesling with origin, depth, and character – crafted for people who want to discover wine, not just drink it.
